San Carlos School District Board of Trustees

Election Process for Board Members

 

On May 14, 2026, the SCSD Board of Education passed a Resolution calling for an election to elect 3 members of the Governing Board for a full term of 4 years each. This ballot measure will be included in the November 3, 2026 General Election. We invite anyone who is interested in joining the Board to review the following information.

Eligibility

Education Code requires that individuals who serve on the Board of Trustees must be 18 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen, a resident of the school district, a registered voter, and not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office. Furthermore, an individual cannot be a current employee of the District.

 

Key Dates for Candidates

  • June 4 and July 9 - Candidate Information Sessions
  • July 13 - Candidate Filing Opens (113 days prior to election)
  • August 7 - Candidate Filing Closes (88 days prior to election)
  • November 3 - General Election
  • December 10 (tentative) - Regular Board Meeting - Oath of Office

 

Candidate Information Sessions (optional)

Members of the current School Board will hold two Candidate Information Sessions for potential candidates. During the meeting, Board members will speak to why they choose to serve, the level of commitment that Board service requires and the roles and responsibilities of Trustees. The information sessions will be held on:

  • Thursday, June 4 from 5:00-6:00 pm (prior to Regular Board Meeting) Virtual only
  • Thursday, July 9 from 7:00-8:00 pm (following Regular Board Meeting) In-person/Virtual

Filing Process

Individuals interested in being considered as a candidate for the San Carlos School District Board of Education must contact the San Mateo County November 2026 Statewide Elections page for instructions on filing their candidacy.
