New to San Carlos School District for the 2026–27 school year? Welcome!

Although school offices close for the summer beginning Friday, June 19, new student registration will remain available online through PowerSchool Enrollment. Please note that Brittan Acres, Heather, and White Oaks school offices closed on June 13 due to campus construction projects.

Register Early: Due to high demand and limited capacity, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 6th grade are nearing enrollment limits. Student placement is determined on a first-come, first-served basis once all required registration documents have been submitted and verified.

We encourage families to complete the registration process as soon as possible to maximize placement opportunities.

STEP 2 - Verify Residency

The San Carlos School District is open to all age-eligible students who live within the boundaries of the San Carlos School District. Please Note that our school district boundaries are not identical to the civic boundaries of the City of San Carlos — please see our School Boundaries page to verify your address and find your assigned school.

We no longer accept registration for students who reside outside of the SCSD boundaries. If you are interested in transferring into SCSD from another school district, please see our Transfer Requests page for more information on the Interdistrict (Out-of-District) Transfer process.

STEP 3 - Verify Grade Level Eligibility

For the 2026-27 school year, students are eligible to enter the following grade levels based on their birthdate:

Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) (Age 4): Children born between September 2, 2021 and September 1, 2022 are eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten. Children must turn four by September 1, 2026.
Kindergarten (Age 5): Children born between September 2, 2020 and September 1, 2021 are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten. Children must turn five by September 1, 2026.

Additional Information:

Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK)
- TK students currently enrolled in SCSD do not need to re-register for Kindergarten as they are already enrolled in our District and will be automatically enrolled in Kindergarten.
- Is there priority registration for a specific TK school?
  No. The District does not guarantee placement at a specific school for TK enrollment. Siblings are placed first, and all other students are assigned based on space availability. Families are encouraged to register during the Priority Registration period to help the District plan for the appropriate number of classrooms.
- Will there be space for everyone interested in Transitional Kindergarten?
  Yes. Children born between September 2, 2021 and September 1, 2022 are eligible to start TK in August 2026.

SCSD Preschool Students
- Preschool students currently attending in one of our SCSD preschools must still complete the registration process to be enrolled in TK or Kindergarten. If your child is attending in one of our SCSD preschool classes, they are not yet a matriculated student and are required to register for TK/Kindergarten. For preschool students who live outside the boundaries of SCSD, you must apply for and receive and approved Interdistrict Transfer, see our Transfer Requests page for more information.
New Students Entering Grades 1-8
- Will be registered in a grade level based on their DOB and previous grade level completion is considered. We request parents submit their child's most current report card.

STEP 4 - Gather Required Registration Documents

STEP 5 - Complete PowerSchool Registration

Click on the 2026-27 New Student PowerSchool Registration button.
Create a PowerSchool account or log in if you already have one.
Select Add Student and follow the prompts to complete registration.
Upload all required documents to submit your registration successfully.
New families must create a PowerSchool Enrollment account and complete the registration online. If you are a current SCSD family registering a new student, you can log in to PowerSchool using your email or phone number.
Students registering after our Priority Registration deadline of January 30, 2026, will be placed on a space-available basis.

STEP 6 - Receive Registration Confirmation

After completing your student’s pre-registration, your neighborhood school will review your information and contact you if any additional documentation is needed.
Once all required documents have been verified, students will be assigned to a school based on space availability. Placement at your neighborhood school is not guaranteed. If space is unavailable, your child may be assigned to another elementary school.
A second email titled "(2026-27) Back-To-School Form | Enrollment Confirmation" from [email protected] will be sent to you with:
- Step-by-step instructions to update your child's records
- A link to access the PowerSchool portal
- Your student's unique Snap Code for completing the form
- Your enrollment will not be complete until these forms are completed.
Any additional forms required after registration should be submitted directly to your school office, not the Registration Department.
