Get Ready for 2026–27 - SCSD New Student Priority Registration Opens January 7

New student priority registration is open January 7-30, 2026 for families with incoming TK and Kindergarten students, as well as any students new to SCSD for the coming fall. Registering during this window helps secure your child’s spot and allows us to plan thoughtfully for the year ahead.

STEP 2 - Verify Residency

The San Carlos School District is open to all age-eligible students who live within the boundaries of the San Carlos School District. Please Note that our school district boundaries are not identical to the civic boundaries of the City of San Carlos — please see our School Boundaries page to verify your address and find your assigned school.

We no longer accept registration for students who reside outside of the SCSD boundaries. If you are interested in transferring into SCSD from another school district, please see our Transfer Requests page for more information on the Interdistrict (Out-of-District) Transfer process.

STEP 3 - Verify Grade Level Eligibility

For the 2026-27 school year, students are eligible to enter the following grade levels based on their birthdate:

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - Children born between September 2, 2021 and September 1, 2022 are eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten.
Kindergarten - Children born between September 2, 2020 and September 1, 2021 are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.

Additional Information:

Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK)
- TK students currently enrolled in SCSD do not need to re-register for Kindergarten as they are already enrolled in our District and will be automatically enrolled in Kindergarten.
- Is there priority registration into a specific school for TK? No. The district does not offer guaranteed placement in a specific school for TK enrollment. Siblings will be placed first, all other students will be assigned to a school based on space available. Be sure to register during the Priority Registration period to help us plan for the appropriate number of classrooms.
- Will there be space for everyone interested in Transitional Kindergarten?
  Yes. Children born between September 2, 2021 and September 1, 2022 are eligible to start TK in August 2026.
- Incoming UTK/K Families - Save the Date for Two Important Events!
  - NEW! Join us for a UPK Parent Information Session on Zoom, January 14 at 5:30 pm to learn all about our UTK programs. (Zoom link to be provided)
  - Attend your school’s Prospective UTK/K Parent School Meeting on January 28. More details will be available on your school’s website in January—stay tuned!
SCSD Preschool Students
- Preschool students currently attending in one of our SCSD preschools must still complete the registration process to be enrolled in TK or Kindergarten. If your child is attending in one of our SCSD preschool classes, they are not yet a matriculated student and are required to register for TK/Kindergarten. For preschool students who live outside the boundaries of SCSD, you must apply for and receive and approved Interdistrict Transfer, see our Transfer Requests page for more information.
New Students Entering Grades 1-8
- Will be registered in a grade level based on their DOB and previous grade level completion is considered.

STEP 4 - Gather Required Registration Documents

STEP 5 - Complete PowerSchool Registration

New Student Priority Registration Period
begins Wednesday, January 7 and ends Friday, January 30, 2026

All completed registrations received during the Priority Registration Period will receive priority placement at the home school if space is available. Please note, that placement in Transitional Kindergarten at your home school is not guaranteed and depends on the number of students registering for this grade level at each site. If space is unavailable, your child may be assigned to another elementary school.

Students registering after January 30, 2026, will be placed on a space-available basis. Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page if you have additional questions.

New families must create a PowerSchool Enrollment account and complete the registration online. If you are a current SCSD family registering a new student, you can log in to PowerSchool using your email or phone number.

STEP 6 - Receive Registration Confirmation

After you have completed your pre-registration, schools will review your information and contact you if needed.
School Assignment notifications will be sent via email by February 27, 2026.
A second email with additional instructions and access to complete the online registration process in PowerSchool (SnapCode) will be sent to you in the Spring.
Additional health forms due after registration should be submitted to your school office, not the District Office.
