Innovative Learning

We are excited to report that SCSD received two Kent Awards from the San Mateo County School Boards Association for our efforts in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, as well as our Tierra Linda Speech & Debate Club. Awards are given to outstanding and innovative programs either in the classroom or outside the classroom as well as district-wide programs.

SCSD has also been recognized and awarded $200,000 grant as part of the California Department of Education's Anti-Bias Education Grant Program. In the past 3 years, SCSD's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) initiative has met many goals established by the Steering Committee to elevate the diversity in our community and close opportunity and equity gaps. The three-year grant will help support the ongoing work, including supporting the position of a Community Liaison for family engagement.

Welcome back San Carlos families! I am Korah Guilar, the Interim Director of Wellness while Illana Yakubovich is out on maternity leave. I wanted to share a little intro about myself and also a parent back-to-school jitters/socialization document that I find helpful.

We are proud to shine a spotlight on our amazing San Carlos School Celebrations of Learning!

At the June 8th Board meeting, Superintendent Jennifer Frentress and Assistant Superintendent Hans Barber shared photos and highlights of the families, students and staff who participated in the Celebrations of Learning at each of our school campuses last month.

We are proud to shine a spotlight on the stellar staff members that work for our District. During the month of May, SCSD celebrates principals, teachers, classified employees and nurses.

At the May 11th Board Meeting, the Superintendent, the Board and SCSD Administrators recognized our different work groups for all they do throughout the school year to support the staff and students of the district. During this month we celebrate the following groups:
- National School Principal Day (May 1)
- National School Nurses Week (May 6-12)
- Teacher Appreciation Week (May 8-12)
- Classified School Employee Appreciation Week (May 21-27)

We are proud to shine a spotlight on our San Carlos students that excel academically inside and outside the classroom, especially in speech & debate, math, and science & writing competitions. At our April 6th Board Meeting, we celebrated some of their accomplishments and applauded the teachers who supported their growth - Jay Richards and Marty De.
