Welcome Hans Barber, Assistant Superintendent, San Carlos School District

We are pleased to announce that the San Carlos School Board appointed Hans Barber to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and Human Resources for the San Carlos School District (SCSD).  He will lead all aspects of both the Education Services and the Human Resources departments.

Hans is an experienced administrator who comes to us with 25 years of TK-12 experience in education. He is an outstanding and accomplished educator who has worked in a variety of leadership roles including most recently serving as the Executive Director of Instruction for the Cupertino Union School District.  While in that position, Hans developed ongoing, high quality professional development plans for the implementation of Common Core Standards and facilitated a full-scale pilot and successive adoption of Mathematics curriculum, including Algebra and Geometry, for 25 school sites.

Prior to joining Cupertino Union School District, Hans served as a high school mathematics teacher for ten years, and received the Teacher of the Year award twice during that period. Following his years in the classroom, Hans moved into site administration in Santa Clara Unified School District, first as a Vice Principal at Peterson Middle School, then as the Principal at Don Callejon K-8 School, which was honored as a 2010 California Distinguished School in just its fourth year in operation. While at Don Callejon, Hans oversaw the implementation of Readers and Writers Workshop, Guided Reading and Reading Intervention for all students.

Hans lives in San Jose with his wife, Jennifer, and their three boys.  In addition to being a passionate and dedicated educator, he is an avid sports fan, a Little League coach, and lover of the outdoors.

Hans will be introduced to our community through the many welcome back to school events already scheduled including staff and PTA meetings.  Thank you for welcoming Hans Barber and for your continued support of the San Carlos School District.
