At SCSD, we understand that education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it's about nurturing individuals who are confident in their abilities, open to reflection, and flexible in the face of changing circumstances. Our Self-Aware Learners are at the forefront of this transformative journey.
 Enjoy this week’s video exploring how these remarkable traits of Self-Aware Learners are shaping not only their individual paths but also the collective future of our educational community.  Unity Day is this Wednesday, Oct. 18, and we celebrate by wearing orange to unite for kindness, courage, and inclusion, to prevent students from being bullied. This color is described as warm and inviting and is commonly associated with safety, visibility, and protection. All are invited to celebrate by wearing orange. This Thursday, Oct. 19, Arroyo will participate in the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill along with millions of other schools in California and around the world. Arroyo and Central will be holding a drill at 10:45 a.m. and will practice our earthquake (drop, cover, and hold on) and evacuation procedures. We will also be discussing our other emergency protocols so that students know what to do in an emergency. I’ll be sharing more about that (and our procedures for parents) in a separate email later this week. Please watch for that, read it carefully, and save it for future reference. We encourage you to “Drop! Cover! Hold on!” at home, too. When an earthquake strikes, you have only a few seconds to get to safety, so practicing can make all the difference. Some tips to get prepared for earthquakes at home:
 Eagle Council is hosting their first community service drive of the year, collecting hygiene items for Samaritan House as a part of the Project Wee Care program. Please consider donating hygiene items (masks, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, body lotion, hand soap, laundry soap, dishwashing soap) Oct. 16-27. We’ll have collection bins in the office. This Friday is our makeup picture day. You should have already received an email from Still Light Studios with your child’s proofs and ordering information. If your child missed picture day or you would like to have their photos retaken, please send them to school prepared for that on Friday. Warmly, Breakfast and Lunch This WeekPlease take time to review the menu for next week with your child. If they do not see a breakfast and/or lunch option that they will eat, then please plan to help them pack their own lunch from home (or a hearty snack on Wednesday), and please send your child with a snack for morning recess regardless.   PTA News Help Boost the Read-a-thon at ArroyoDo you love books and reading? The PTA is looking for a Read-a-thon Campus Coordinator to partner with our wonderful SCEF Reps, Melissa Schmidt and Chez Rueda, to support and promote the SCEF Read-a-thon at Arroyo. Community News ACE Is Now Enrolling for 2024-25Afterschool Care Enrichment, also known as ACE, offers a flexible, innovative, state-licensed child care program focused on enrichment and youth development to challenge our Lower and Upper Elementary students. Each day includes a healthy afternoon snack, our Homework Lab with staff-assisted support, STEAM activities, and active outdoor enrichment programming.
