SCSD Board President, Neil Layton said, “On behalf of the Board, we are proud of and want to congratulate our students, teachers, staff, and parents at White Oaks. Furthermore, the Board believes this ranking is a reflection of the abilities and hard work of our entire District’s teachers, staff, and parent community. San Carlos is a small District that believes in collaboration and a shared vision for whole child education at all levels of our District. These rankings throughout our District further demonstrate the value of a San Carlos education. We are happy our schools are getting recognized for the hard work and dedication we have known throughout the years.”

This is the first time U.S. News has published rankings and data on more than 80,000 public elementary and middle schools across the country. To determine the rankings, data from the U.S. Department of Education was analyzed in two areas - Math and reading proficiency, or how well students perform on state assessments and Math and reading performance, or how well they perform compared with expectations. The state assessment data used in the rankings are from the 2018-2019 school year and therefore pre-dates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on test-taking.

“This award is a wonderful validation of the excellent work of teachers, administrators, employees, and families in inspiring and challenging our students to reach new levels of achievement,” said SCSD Superintendent Jennifer Frentress. “I’m thrilled that our schools are being recognized for innovative academic programs that ignite curiosity for learning and prepare students to be the leaders of tomorrow.”

White Oaks Elementary Interim Principal Kim Norgaard said, “I am beyond proud of all our students’ achievements! This award is a real testimony to the tremendous efforts and dedication of our teachers, staff, and parents to support and enrich the lives of our students and to provide each child with a solid educational foundation.”
