Severe Wind Event - District Plan

October 8, 2019

Dear San Carlos School District Community,

You may have heard about an anticipated Severe Wind Event this week. I understand that this type of weather event could cause stress and I want to reassure you that our schools are safe places for students and staff.

PG&E has announced they are considering proactively turning off power for safety and implementing a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) across portions of Bay Area, including some areas of San Mateo County.

The Public Safety Power Shutoff Outage Map allows a user to enter a service address and receive additional information about potential impact. By viewing the map, it appears that the San Carlos School District is not likely to be affected. As the result of occasional power outages due to winter storms in this area, our schools are well-prepared to implement emergency response protocols if needed. It is always best and safest for students to remain in school if possible and we anticipate instruction will continue even if the power goes out.

We will notify you by email if PG&E goes ahead with a power outage that impacts our schools. At that time, we will share any information we have about the duration of the outage and our plans.

We will update the District News section of the SCSD website with any new information as we receive it - www.scsdk8.org.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Michelle Harmeier
Superintendent
