Join Biking Events at Hometown Days

This weekend we celebrate the 29th year of San Carlos Hometown Days with three BIG events that promote bicycling and active transportation as part of our Safe Routes to School program. Hopefully you can join the fun!

FRIDAY 5:00–7:30pm (during SCEF concert)
  • "Bikes& Wheels Decorating" materials will be available for kids and adults to decorate their bikes to encourage riding to the concert and decorating for the next day’s Hometown Days Parade/Pre-Parade Roll

    • Located in Burton Park’s Bike Corral (the horseshoe pit behind tennis courts)
    • Free supplies
    • Open to everyone

SATURDAY 9:00–9:25am (before parade)
  • "Laurel Loop Street Ride" to encourage riding downtown for parade, all self-propelled wheels welcome to ride on Laurel Street while it's closed to traffic

    • The Laurel Street Loop ride will be on Laurel from the corner of San Carlos Ave. to Arroyo St. and back, following normal traffic directions
    • SR2S and San Carlos Bikes Volunteers will be stationed at the intersections to make sure everyone is riding safely
    • Bike decorations are encouraged but not required
    • Curbside ‘breakfast picnics’ encouraged, so a list of Laurel Street merchants open for breakfast business will be posted
    • If planning to drive, consider bringing bikes on a vehicle rack

  • “The Inaugural Bikes & Wheels Pre-Parade Roll”- Bikers & wheel riders will meet at the corner of San Carlos & Laurel Ave. to usher in the Hometown Days parade

    • Riders will follow the parade route and end at Burton Park
    • Anyone who wishes can circle back to watch or join the parade with their school/group

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

  • “Free Bikes & Wheels Valet Parking” at Burton Park BIke Corral

    • All rideable wheels welcome--bikes, scooters, skateboards, wagons, strollers, etc.; Self-parking also available
    • Located in horseshoe pit area, behind tennis courts
  • “Bikes & Wheels Booth” at Burton Park Bike Corral
    • Free games & fun prizes for learning about bike safety
