Board of Trustees appointed Arroyo Upper Elementary Principal

Last night at the regularly scheduled Board meeting, the Board of Trustees appointed Mindy Shelton as the Arroyo Upper Elementary School Principal beginning July 30, 2019.

Mindy Shelton is already a well-known and respected leader in the San Carlos District!  She has served as the Assistant Principal at Central Middle School for the past 3 years after 21 years in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District.  Mindy began her career teaching kindergarten and then served as a 5th grade teacher for 10 years in Belmont-Redwood Shores at Nesbit and Central Elementary Schools.  Her leadership in school climate and culture development, parent engagement, character education, conflict resolution and professional development earned her a district level position where Mindy led district-wide initiatives including health and wellness programs, health education, physical education, PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Support), social-emotional learning, and Safe Routes to School.  As a former 5th grade teacher, Mindy brings extensive experiences in curriculum development, project based learning, and instructional strategies specifically geared for the 4th and 5th upper elementary grades.

Mindy will be at Arroyo tomorrow morning to greet the staff and students, and she will also have the opportunity to meet her Brittan Acres and White Oaks 3rd graders during the 3rd Grade Welcome Assemblies soon.  Parents will be invited to a meet and greet opportunity with Mindy later in May.  She will continue to serve in her role as Assistant Principal at Central Middle School for the remainder of the year and will work closely with Alex Friel, current interim principal during this transition.

Please join us in welcoming her to her new position with the San Carlos School District!
