Overview
San Carlos School District is dedicated to helping our homeless and foster youth. Below is some information and basic resources for those families. There are more local resources available. Overview of Homeless Education program
The federal Homeless Education program is designed to provide supplemental programs and services to students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate residence. While we do NOT receive McKinney-Vento Homeless Education funds, we set aside funds from our Title I allocation for this purpose. Students eligible for Homeless Education program services include:
- Students and youth who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason
- Students who may be living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, shelters, or awaiting foster care placement
- Students and youth who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings
- Students and youth who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar settings
- Migratory students who qualify as homeless because they are students who are living in similar circumstances as listed above
