Dear San Carlos School District Community,


It’s mid-October and our school year is in full swing! I hope you were able to attend the Back-to School Night presentations provided by our amazing teachers last month and were impressed by what SCSD offers our children. Many factors contribute to a student's academic performance, but among school-related factors, teachers matter most. I am proud that SCSD hires and retains outstanding teachers!


Parent Conferences

Thank you for joining us during parent conference week. Teachers enjoyed meeting with both students and parents in the upper elementary and middle school schools where students led the conversation. Our new elementary approach to fall conferences focused on goal setting, with parents and teachers collaborating to support our younger learners. 


Week of the School Administrator

The San Carlos School District is celebrating the Week of the School Administrator from October 13 - October 19. SCSD's school administrators are dedicated, hardworking, caring professionals who go above and beyond every day to create and support premier academic and extra-curricular learning opportunities for students. Please join me in recognizing and celebrating SCSD’s administrators and the invaluable contributions they make to our students, schools, and community.


Great Shake Out and the Big Five

On Thursday, October 17, all students and staff in our district will practice the annual earthquake preparedness drill called “The Great Shakeout.” Two of the Big 5 Emergency Response Protocols will come into play for this drill: Drop, Cover and Hold On, and Evacuation. Please read more about The Big 5 so you can understand the terminology and response actions for a variety of emergencies. 


Emergency Contact Information

Last week as Northern California prepared for intentional power outages, we are reminded of the importance of having our student information system as current as possible. In the event of a significant emergency, parents will receive a phone call and email from our emergency broadcast system. Parents also may opt-in to receive a text message either during the annual InfoSnap registration process, or by texting “yes” to 67587.


School Board Member Appointment Process

Our Board of Trustees will be interviewing interested candidates to fill the Board vacancy at a special board on Monday, October 21 beginning at 6:00 pm. Once the Board appoints its new member, that person will assume the seat in December and the term of this appointed seat will run through December 2024. For more information on the process, please visit our School Board page. School Board meetings are open to the public and are held at the District Office - 1200 Industrial Ave, San Carlos at 7:00 pm. Here is the calendar for the Board Meetings for 2019-2020 School Year. All regular board meeting agendas are published three days in advance. 


Prop. 39 Grant Rooftop Solar Projects - Tierra Linda & Mariposa Schools

As part of the Prop 39 State Energy Grant Program in 2013, SCSD received grant funds from the State of California to implement energy efficiency plans to reduce our energy footprint and costs of energy through solar projects, lighting changes and heating/AC improvements. The grant funds are restricted for these projects and are not part of our district budget. In the summer of 2018, three solar shade structures were installed by REC Solar at Heather, Arundel and Arroyo. The Department of State Architecture (DSA) approved the Tierra Linda and Mariposa plans and installation is anticipated to begin October 28. Construction will take place over about 8 weeks. We are working closely with the construction company to minimize disruptions to the school day. New Student Registration

SCSD will be opening the first window of registration for any NEW students enrolling for the 2020-2021 school year, starting on Friday, November 1. Registration for all grades will be open for a 4-month period until February 28, 2020 and parents may register at any time during this period. This registration window is for all new incoming Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, and any students in grades 1st through 8th who will be new to the District (currently enrolled students do not need to complete this process). Preschool & Kindergarten Information Night

Have an incoming Kindergartener? Looking for a great preschool? Join us for our Preschool & Kindergarten Parent Information Night on Monday, November 18 from 6:30-8:00pm in Mustang Hall.
