How to Register for the 2022-2023 (NEXT) School Year

Welcome to the San Carlos School District! We are excited to welcome you to our schools and help guide you through the process of registering your child. The information on this page explains the process for registering all new incoming Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students, as well as any student in grades 1-8 that will be new or returning to SCSD for the 2022-23 school year.
TK/K Information Night

Do you have an incoming TK or Kindergarten student? Are you new to the district?

If so, please join us on Monday, January 10 from 6:30-7:30 pm for a virtual presentation via Zoom.

Our Virtual TK/Kindergarten Information Night is designed to provide parents and guardians with information about
the San Carlos School District, its community partners and programs, and to provide an overview of how to register for school.

Will your child turn 5 between September 2, 2022 and February 1, 2023?
If so, they will be enrolled in our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.
Visit our Transitional Kindergarten program page to learn more.

New Student Priority Registration for all students (TK-8th grade) opens on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
Priority registration closes on February 11, 2022.

NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR THE 2022-23 (NEXT) SCHOOL YEAR

STEP ONE - Review Key Dates
The New Student Priority Registration Period is January 11 - February 11, 2022. We strongly recommend families register during this timeframe. All completed registrations received during the Priority Registration Period will receive priority into their home school if space is available. See our Key Dates for Registration & Transfers page for more information on upcoming registration events and deadlines.

STEP TWO - Verify Grade Level Eligibility
For the 2022-23 school year, students are eligible to enter the following grade levels based on their age:
  • Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - if they have reached 5 years of age on or between September 2 – February 1, 2023. Learn more about our TK program by visiting our Transitional Kindergarten page.
  • Kindergarten - if they have reached 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2022.
    • Students who do not turn 5 by February 1, 2023 are not eligible to enter Kindergarten or TK for the 2022-23 school year.
    • TK students currently enrolled in SCSD do not need to register for Kindergarten as they are already enrolled in our District and will be automatically enrolled in Kindergarten.
    • Preschool students currently enrolled in SCSD must still complete the registration process to be enrolled in TK or Kindergarten. If your child is currently enrolled in one of our San Carlos Preschool classes, they are not yet a matriculated student and are required to register for TK/Kindergarten.
  • Grades 1-8: Will be placed in the grade following the last one they attended, or according to their age if it is their first time attending public school in the United States.

STEP THREE - Verify Residency
Please see the District/School Boundaries page to verify your location within the San Carlos School District and find your school assignment based on your residence address.

We are no longer accepting registration for students who reside outside of the SCSD boundaries. If you are interested in transferring into SCSD from another school district, please see our Transfer Requests page for more information on the Interdistrict (Out-of-District) Transfer process. Employees and siblings of concurrently enrolled students will be given enrollment priority once the transfer is approved.

STEP FOUR - Gather Required Registration Documents
Before starting your online registration, gather all required documents to upload during the registration process. Incomplete student registration packets will not be processed and may delay your enrollment.

  1. Child's Original Birth Certificate - Passport, attested baptism certificate, a statement by local registrar or county recorder certifying date of birth, or affidavit of parent, guardian, or custodian of minor certifying date of birth
  2. Three Current Proofs of Residency
    1. Current property tax or rental agreement with resident's name and address listed on document - AND -
    2. Two current utility bills from different sources (for example PG&E, Recology, Comcast, California Water Service)
  3. Immunizations - Statement from doctor's office with all current immunizations listed
  4. Driver License - Provide parent Driver License or Photo ID

STEP FIVE - Complete PowerSchool Enrollment

New families are required to create a PowerSchool Enrollment account and register students online. If you are a current SCSD family and are registering a new student you may log in to PowerSchool using your email or phone number to register.

All completed registrations received during the Priority Registration Period (Jan 12-Feb 11, 2022) will receive priority into their home school if space is available.
STEP SIX - Registration Confirmation
  • As parents complete their registration and document upload online, schools will review paperwork to make sure the registration is complete.
  • Parents will receive a SnapCode and additional instructions and access to complete the registration process in mid-March.
  • The deadline to complete the PowerSchool Enrollment confirmation is Friday, April 1, 2022 at 4:00 pm.
  • Please contact your neighborhood school if you have questions regarding registration and enrollment as we are no longer accepting registration at the District Office.
