Dear San Carlos Community,

As we near the end of our first trimester and enter into this season of gratitude, I want to take this opportunity to share a few of my appreciations with you.

One of the things I am most grateful for is the power of our schools to change people’s lives. Our staff, administrators, and community believe in and encourage our students to be curious, challenge themselves, “own” their learning, and to be accepting and caring for one another and our world . As I have visited the campuses and met with our parents these past 8 weeks (and prior 8 years), I am inspired and even more grateful for the amazing collaboration and learning that happens every day by each and every member of this community–parents, staff, partners and most importantly, our students.

I am thankful for the parents, who share their most valuable possession with us, their volunteerism and outstanding partnership advocating to ensure high quality education, safety, and well-being for our students and community as a whole.

I am thankful for our teachers, paraeducators, bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, lunch servers, nurses, support staff, maintenance crew, counselors, district office personnel, SMART-E staff, administrators and Board of Trustees who understand and take responsibility for their unique role in educating our students, who truly care about student achievement and personally hold our students’ success and well-being at heart.

Finally, I am thankful for students who come to school every day with a curiosity, wonder and eagerness to learn and grow – giving us a daily reminder of the core reason we are here!

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I count my many blessings: my family, friends, more than 3,100 students, 382 team members and a community that believes in the power of education for all to benefit and strengthen our schools, our community, our world and our future.

I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy, and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!

Best wishes,

Mary Jude Doerpinghaus
