Tierra Linda, CLC, Mariposa Construction Schedule Status and Update

Dear Tierra Linda, Charter Learning Center, and Mariposa Community,

Welcome back to the new school year.  Significant construction activity has occurred this summer and we wanted to provide you with a brief update on the status of our development plans:

  • The Tierra Linda Middle School’s new construction and modernization is now complete.  This includes the new Learning Commons and Administration facility along with modernization of Buildings C and E.
  • CLC’s new Multiuse facility is complete along with upper parking lot and drop off/pick up area.  Considerable site work has also been done for the preparation of the GrowthPoint modulars.
  • The new Mariposa play area will be finished shortly which includes a 5,000 square foot grass field and 15,000 square foot hard top play area.

Our focus is now on the construction and installation of the GrowthPoint modular classrooms for CLC.  The construction schedule provided by GrowthPoint calls for an initial modular delivery date in late September with final phase to be delivered by early November.

Based on this schedule, Alten Construction estimates that installation of the modulars and completion of site details will be done by mid-February allowing CLC to move in to the new school during Presidents’ Week or shortly thereafter.  This move-in is later than the anticipated Winter Break move, which was based on GrowthPoint’s schedule at time of contractual commitment. GrowthPoint has acknowledged the delay and its responsibility to reimburse the District for the resulting costs.

Stacy Emory and the CLC Board are discussing the new construction timeline and impact on CLC’s calendar.  They will be communicating any changes to the calendar to the CLC community as soon as possible.

The Division of the State Architecture (DSA) has approved the modernization plans for Mariposa.  Alten is planning on commencing this modernization as soon as CLC occupies its new classrooms.  Alten’s schedule allows for this work to be completed by summer 2018 for the opening of Mariposa for the 2018-19 school year.  There is latitude of up to two months after Presidents’ Week should there be any GrowthPoint delivery delays and still see to the target opening for Mariposa.

Our District Architect, QKA, plans to submit the new Mariposa Learning Commons construction drawings to DSA by the end of September/beginning of October.  Alten will provide a construction schedule once DSA approval is obtained.  Alten’s belief, based on preliminary drawings, is that the exterior of the Learning Commons facility can be substantially complete for the opening of the 2018-19 school year.   Interior finishings may need to extend to the early part of the school year.

Thank you for your patience during this extensive remake of the Tierra Linda/CLC/Mariposa campus.
