Overview of Homeless Education program

The federal Homeless Education program is designed to provide supplemental programs and services to students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate residence. While we do NOT receive McKinney-Vento Homeless Education funds, we set aside funds from our Title I allocation for this purpose. Students eligible for Homeless Education program services include:

  • Students and youth who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason
  • Students who may be living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, shelters, or awaiting foster care placement
  • Students and youth who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings
  • Students and youth who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar settings
  • Migratory students who qualify as homeless because they are students who are living in similar circumstances as listed above
